The Baltimore Orioles activated third baseman Jordan Westburg and outfielder Cedric Mullins from the 10-day injured list before Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers.
Baltimore also demoted top prospect Heston Kjerstad to Triple-A Norfolk and designated infielder Emmanuel Rivera for assignment.
Westburg was batting sixth and playing third base on Tuesday while Mullins was serving as the designated hitter and batting ninth.
Westburg, 26, last played for the Orioles on April 26 due to a left hamstring strain. He was batting .217 with four homers and six RBIs in 23 games. He was an All-Star last season and batted .264 with 18 homers and 63 RBIs.
“I was itching to play some baseball again, so happy to be here,” Westburg said before Tuesday’s game. “Early on, I felt like I was kind of starting all over again. But toward the end of the week there, started to feel a lot better, and like I’m in a good spot, physically, to jump right back in.”
Mullins, 30, injured his right hamstring on May 28. He was hitting .232 with 10 homers and 31 RBIs in 50 games this season. He was a 2021 All-Star when he slugged a career-best 30 homers. He has 96 homers, 133 steals and a .251 career average.
Kjerstad, 26, was the No. 2 overall selection in the 2020 draft but has been unable to produce at the major league level.
Kjerstad was batting .192 with four homers and 19 RBIs in 54 games this season. In 106 games over three seasons, he has a .218 average with 10 homers, 36 RBIs and 88 strikeouts.
Rivera, 28, was batting .232 with no homers and three RBIs in 25 games. He has a .243 career average and 22 homers in 365 games with four teams over five seasons.
